Cataract Management
Service Description
Cataracts are a common eye condition that occurs when the normally clear, natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to progressively blurred or diminished vision. This clouding is caused by a buildup of proteins in the lens, which interfere with light passing through to the retina. Over time, cataracts can make everyday activities—such as reading, driving, or recognizing faces—more difficult. The most common type is age-related cataracts, which typically develop gradually and affect adults over the age of 40. While cataracts can form in one or both eyes, they do not spread from one eye to the other. Other types of cataracts can result from genetic factors, eye injuries, certain medications (such as corticosteroids), excessive UV exposure, smoking, or underlying health conditions like diabetes. Here's a few examples of common symptoms of Cataracts: • Blurry, cloudy, or dim vision that worsens over time • Increased sensitivity to light and glare, especially when driving at night • Halos around lights • Faded or yellowed colors • Frequent changes in eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions • Difficulty seeing in low-light conditions If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s important to schedule an eye exam. Our eye doctors can assess the severity of your cataracts and discuss your options. In the early stages, updated prescriptions and brighter lighting may help manage symptoms. However, as cataracts progress and begin to interfere with daily life, cataract surgery—a safe and highly effective procedure—may be recommended to restore clear vision.
